About the "Dual Model" SeriesUnlike standard model kits of that era, the Takara Dual Model series was revolutionary:

Hybrid Construction: It combines a zinc diecast metal inner endoskeleton skeleton with snap-on plastic outer armor parts.Detailed Mechanical Gimmick: The outer armor pieces can be removed to display the highly detailed mechanical frame underneath.

Scale: It is built at a 1/72 scale, making it highly compatible with other military miniatures and mecha lines of the era.BattleTech Connection

If you are a tabletop wargaming fan, you might recognize this design immediately. This specific mecha design was licensed by FASA in the mid-1980s to create the Griffin (GRF-1N) BattleMech for the BattleTech board game. Along with other designs from Dougram, Macross, and Crusher Joe, it eventually became known as part of the "Unseen" due to subsequent legal disputes over the visual rights.
